2023: Social Media Agog Over Ambode’s Perceived Defection To Labour Party

Published

on

By Augustine Akhilomen

Twitter and other social platforms have been buzzing since yesterday over rumoured defection of  former governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, to the Labour Party.

It was even alleged that the former governor had picked the ticket of the party to run as its governorship candidate in the state in next year’s election.

There was indeed wide speculations in some quarters, most especially by the OBI-dients supporters on Thursday that Ambode has dumped the ruling All Progressive Party (APC) for Labour Party.

Recall that Ambode served as governor of Lagos State between 2015 and 2019, before Sanwo-Olu took over after he lost at the APC primary.

However, a close source to the former governor confirmed to Thepledge that Ambode has not decamped to any party and he remains with APC.

He also confirmed that he’s still a core member of the ruling party and a loyal man.

“I dont think there is truth in what is currently trending about Ambode defecting to Labour Party. I can tell you from what I know that he’s still a loyal APC member and wont do anything that is inimical to the interests of the party”, the source said.

In the meantime, incumbent Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the APC and Olajide Adediran, popularly known by his supporters  as Jandor, (PDP) are the two front runners for the March 23rd, 2023 governorship election.

See reactions below…

@charlesozoemena If this is true.. infact this is one of the best news I have heard today.. to be frank, even fashola didn’t find it easy with Tinubu..go and verify

@tammyhalliday_ The reactions gracing the news of Ambode picking Labour Party ticket suggests that these coconut head generation really want to sack Tinubu from politics completely.

@TheEagle1000 Ambode should go ahead and pick the labour party guber ticket. So Sanwo Olu will understand it’s not his birthright. If Ambode takes this bold step, then it’s over for Tinubu. Even if he loses, Ambode will join competent team led by Peter Obi to Rule this country come 2023

@Tee_Classiquem1 If Akinwunmi Ambode should declare to run as Governor under Labour party today, Sanwo Olu will leave his home work in Osun state and return to Lagos before the day runs out

@BoluwajiU Waoh!
I go vote Ambode straight up!
Sanwo Olu in trouble!
I am OBIdient!

@EngrJamesRealE Ambode don’t dull the youths Peter Obi is the hope Reno knows this he is against good governance

@SirDavidBent A lot of Lagosians loved Ambode during his tenure. They were also quite unhappy when the Lagos cabal ousted him for not playing party politics. If it’s true that he’s contesting under Labour party, people would vote massively to remove APC from power in Lagos. Sanwo-Olu prepare.

@phychem11 if it’s true that Ambode will be contesting the Lagos state gubernatorial election under the Labour Party then he’ll surely win in a free and fair election.

@BonnyNnajiofor This is what you should have done earlier than now. When the Landlord said that you must pack out, you would have used the last breath of incumbency to fight for your survival and dirty too, pull the house just like Samson pulled the house on Philistines

Tinubu Reading January Newspaper In October, This Photo Is A Disappointment – Omokri

Published

on

Nigerian socio-political activist, Reno Omokri, has taken to the microblogging platform, Twitter, to mock the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congres (APC), Bola Tinubu, over a viral photo showing him reading a January 2022 newspaper in October 2022.

Recall that Tinubu had posted a photo of himself earlier on the bird app reading a newspaper.

Tinubu’s photo which is perceived to be an attempt by the presidential hopeful to dispel rumours about his health status has since generated a barrage of reactions on social media.

Joining the host of others in making a mockery of the presidential candidate, Omokri on Thursday afternoon wrote: “This story was published on January 23, 2022. First an old video of your riding an exercise bike. Now, an old photo of your reading ab outdated newspaper? Bola, you should definitely fire the propagandist handling your Twitter account.”

2023: No State Or Community Will Be Left Behind If I’m Elected President, Peter Obi Assures Nigerians

Published

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has promised that no state or community will be left behind in moving Nigeria forward.

He noted that if elected, his administration will tweak the security architecture, which will entail reform of security and governance. “We will restructure, re-equip and reorient the Nigerian Police: This will include 3 levels of policing- federal, state, and community,” he said.

Peter Obi disclosed this in his speech at Harvard University.

Obi said he will ensure that in moving Nigeria forward, no state or community will be left behind. Pursuant to its statutory responsibility to protect, our government will promote equity in power and resource sharing.

“The federating units will enjoy discernible autonomy. Resources will also be shared equitably. A higher derivation paid to oil or solid minerals-producing states will not be tantamount to other states not receiving federal allocations that should keep them viable.

“We will tweak the security architecture, which will entail reform of the security sector and governance. We will restructure, re-equip and reorient the Nigerian Police: This will include 3 levels of policing- federal, state, and community.

“We will build a compact, robust and ready mobile police force with rapid response deployment capabilities; and legislate the establishment of state police based on community policing. We will raise the population-to-police officer ratio to a higher level” he added.

On Nigeria’s role in Africa and insecurity, he added that we must think seriously about a leadership that is imbued with competence, capacity, credibility, and commitment. Accordingly, we will pursue intangible assets of good governance, rule of law, and the security of lives and properties.

He added his administration will ensure that they have these assets in place and stress asset optimization.

“We will strike a strategic balance that allows us to promote and protect national interest while meeting our ECOWAS obligations.

“We will rebuild Nigeria’s military power, promote economic growth, and enhance its technological prowess with a view to improving Nigeria’s diplomatic influence in sub-regional, regional and global affairs.

He added that restoring leadership will require that we reassert proactively, Nigeria’s leadership role in African affairs through constructive engagement, peacekeeping duties, and using existing sub-regional and regional forums as well as bilateral platforms for dialogue on current and emerging challenges. We will continue to enhance our sphere of influence via peacekeeping, and trade and investment initiatives.
