Europa League Final Goalkeeper A Difficult Call – Man Utd Boss, Solskjaer

Published

on

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says nothing is decided over their Europa League final goalkeeper.

Both goalkeepers have started four of United’s eight knockout fixtures in the Europa League, but Dean Henderson has emerged as No. 1 in the Premier League recently, with David De Gea relegated to Cup duty.

“I think there’s loads of difficult calls to make, the whole squad has contributed so much,” said Solskjaer ahead of their final against Villarreal.

“It’s probably a different scenario with the keepers than it’s normally been because they’ve shared I don’t know how many games, close to 60 and both of them are in and around the 30 mark and both have done really well so it will be a difficult call of course. But I will have to make two or three other difficult calls as well.”

Everton defender Michael Keane says missing out on European qualification would represent a season failure.

Keane says that missing out would represent a failure to achieve their goals.

He said: “If you look at the position we got ourselves into and then we’ve been there most of the season.

“We obviously had one or two bad spells but if we didn’t finish in Europe at all I think it would be a disappointing season.

“I think we’ve shown a lot of promise, a lot of improvement this year. I think you can see that the team is getting better and we are improving as a team.

“But with the season we’ve had and where we’ve been all season, I think we should finish in the European places.

“Obviously we’ve lost games that we shouldn’t have and games we wouldn’t have been expected to lose so that could be costly but we’re trying not to think about that at the minute.

“We’ve got three games left and it’s all to play for.”
