…As PDP Govs Congratulate Diri
By Augustine Akhilomen
Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the November 16 Bayelsa governorship election, Douye Diri, has called on defected members of the party that joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) to make a u-turn.
Diri, who is expected to be sworn in as governor of the state today, made the comment following the supreme court sack of David Lyon, his APC rival.
He said: “The members of PDP, who out of one thing or the other got angry and left us to APC, I’m waving the olive branch, please, come back,” Diri said.
“We have to build a Bayelsa state together. I’m also calling on my brothers in APC they are Bayelsans, we cannot continue to be in disunity.
“Being in APC does not remove you as my brother of Bayelsa state. Whether you are Nembe, Okpia, Sabama, or Southern Ijaw, that is the region that God has brought us together and so, I am extending my olive branch even to those of my brothers and sisters in APC.”
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has congratulated Sen. Diri Duruoye and his running mate, Sen. Lawrence Ewhruojakpo, over the Supreme Court judgment on Bayelsa Governorship election.
The forum said this in a statement by the Director-General of the Forum, Mr C.I.D. Maduabum, in Abuja on Thursday. Maduabum said the victory was all the more remarkable as it reaffirmed the fact that “God is in charge of the affairs of men.”
“It shows that the truth and the peoples will ultimately triumph. This is a great victory for democracy and rule of law,” he said.
Maduabum said that as the governors welcomed Diri to their forum, they prayed to God to give him the wisdom and strength to steer the ship of Bayelsa aright.
“We implore you to carry everyone along and run an inclusive government worthy of the ideals of the PDP Governors’ family,” he said.
