…As Children Set To Inherit $10m
…Nigerians React
Following the news of Bill and Melinda Gates divorce, their oldest child, Jennifer Gates, has spoken on the issue.
It was reported that Bill and Melinda announced on Monday that they will be going for a divorce after 27 years of marriage.
They said they could no longer work together but will continue to share a belief in the mission and will continue to work together at the foundation.
Their 25-year-old daughter, reacting to the news, disclosed that the family has been going through a ‘challenging stretch of time’ ever since the couple had the idea.
Jennifer, who is the oldest child of the Gates, on her Instagram page, said it’s been painful watching her parents split.
Her post read: “I am still learning how to best support my own process and emotions as well as my family members at this time and am grateful for the space to do so.
“I wouldn’t personally comment any further on their separation but please note your support and kind words mean the world to me.”
Bill and Melinda Gates have three children together. Jennifer is the oldest, followed by Rory, 21, and 18-year-old Phoebe.
After Bill and Melinda Gates’ divorce documents revealed the couple never had a prenup, many are wondering how the couple, with a combined net worth of $130 billion, will split their assets.
Gates, the world’s fourth-richest man, has spoken in the past about how each of his three children will only inherit about $10 million of his fortune, The SUN reports.
Meanwhile, as the announcement of Bill and Melinda Gates’ divorce after 27 years continues to gather mammoth reactions across the world, Nigerians have expressed mixed feelings too over the billionaire couple’s sudden break-up.
While some Nigerians on Twitter noted that it was their personal decision that should be respected, others felt it reflected that Nigerian parents who endured hardship deserved a credit.
In an apparent reaction to their divorce announcement, actor Uti Nwachukwu, via his Twitter handle, wondered what is the point for a couple to seek a divorce when they are already in their 60s or 70s.
”What’s the point of getting divorced in ur 60s/70s… I just don’t get it!! At that age what could possibly be the problem that cannot be resolved? This marriage thing no be scam so? How many are truly happily married. Anyway Jesus sef no even marry so what am I even saying”he wrote
