…Ize-Iyamu’s Simple Agenda Better Option For Edo- Ikhariale

By Augustine Akhilomen

With barely 48 hours to the anticipated governorship election in Edo State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have continued to make accusations and counter-accusations to sway votes for their respective candidates.

Edo PDP chieftain, Kenneth Imasuagbon, and Hon Patrick Ikhariale, a chieftain of the APC in the State were guests on Channels TV Politics Today engaged themselves in a heated argument in a bid to sell their party’s candidate.

According to Imasuagbon, the September 19 election was one that would afford the people of Edo State to bury the era of godfatherism in the State once and for all.

“This election is between the people and the godfathers, between light and darkness, about those who have looted the treasury of Nigeria, from Lagos to Edo State over the years. Edo people are willing and ready to defeat the godfathers. This is a final onslaught, this is freedom and liberation.

“If you walk through the streets of Edo state, this vote for Saturday is a self-determination of the voters,” he said.

He noted that Obaseki had performed creditably well to deserve a second term in office, adding that he has in the last four years proved that the people were behind the decisions he has made.

“On Saturday, Edo people will decide between a man who has stood on the side of the people and the godfathers. Obaseki is on the side of the people, he has said that he will not give Edo State money to looters, he will rather do roads.

“He has built schools, built hospitals, built roads, he built an agricultural system. Saturday, fellow Edo people, I appeal to your conscience, these people are coming again, don’t allow them to deceive you. Vote for Obaseki because he will guarantee your future,” Imasuagbon said.

But Ikhariale disagreed with the position of his counterpart, insisting that Obaseki’s time as governor of the State will come to an end on September 19.

According to him the candidate of the APC, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu had better plans to give Edo State a facelift, adding the people of the State had seen the light and are ready to vote massively for him.

“Clearly Ize-Iyamu has come up with a very simple strategy which he tagged as Simple Agenda that is of common knowledge to people today. I am happy to say that with the Simple Agenda, Edo people know that their fate and their destiny will be better than what we have at the moment.

“There are no schools anywhere that have been built in the last four years, no hospitals have been built in the last four years, no roads have been built in the last four years by the Edo State Government, no teacher has been employed since this regime came into existence.

“There is no form of e-learning in Edo state. It is the greatest sham, it is a deceit and we are saying our people have come to a realization that it was an error to have voted Obaseki and our candidate is coming with a simple agenda and he will provide all the necessities as much as possible.”

Responding to the broadcast made by National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Imasuagbon described the accusations as laughable, saying that the broadcast was a confirmation that the APC was scared of defeat and were making last-minute move to sway voters.

He said, “Tinubu must know that we are not in 1999. I listened to Oshiomhole, all his tricks have failed, they are now gasping for breath, I can tell you that by Saturday, it will be over for the godfathers.

“Leading the charge of godfathers is Tinubu. He knows that he will be defeated. All their tricks are over, Oshiomhole kneeling down and begging everybody, we have made up our minds now that for APC, it is finished.”

Countering him, Ikhariale defended Tinubu’s statement, insisting that Obaseki in the last four years has not exhibited traits of a democrat.

“There is no better way to put it. Obaseki is not a democrat. I can tell you this from empirical analysis. What is the beginning of the issues? Obaseki has shown in every sense of the word, he is not a democrat. History will not forgive him for the role he played in the primaries of the October 2019 elections. It is on record that Obaseki in a Gestapo manner never allowed primaries. I was a victim of that exercise, everybody in my senatorial district knows it. The funny thing is that he tried to play a victim whereas he is the villain.

“He is highly dictatorial, he is a fascist and unfortunately, he found himself in a regime that supposed to be under a constitutional democracy. This is exactly what Tinubu said, that he has no place in a constitutional democracy before he has never acted, he has never believed or said anything that will show that he is a person that can be trusted with democratic values.

“He does not have the tendencies; he is just like someone who behaves like a bull in a china shop. We make bold to say that Tinubu’s statement that Obaseki is not a democrat is very apt and there is no better way to describe it,” he said.
