…Lagos Senators Want Speaker Removed
By Our Reporter
Ahead of Tuesday’s meeting of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) to look into the ongoing crisis at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa has allegedly boasted that he will get the support of the GAC members.
Investigations by Thepledge reveals that the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu had directed members of the GAC to meet tomorrow, Tuesday by 11am and discuss the ongoing crisis in the Assembly.
However, our correspondent gathered on Monday that Obasa in another desperate move to keep his seat, had told some of his colleagues that he has reached out to the members of the GAC through one Mutiu Are and that whatever decision the Council would take would be in his favour.
A journalist covering the House of Assembly disclosed to Thepledge in confidence that a certain lawmaker from Ojo Constituency told some of them that the Speaker has done the necessary things that would make the GAC members be on his side.
According to the journalist, “The lawmaker told us that the Speaker was briefed about the upcoming GAC meeting and he quickly reached out to Mutiu Are, who is a member and secretary of the GAC. He has sent Mutiu Are to them and whatever the decision they would take would be in the Speaker’s favour.
“He told us that the meeting was initiated by Asiwaju and that Asiwaju would be waiting to hear feedback from the GAC members. Whatever decision they take as GAC is what Asiwaju would act on.
Thepledge also learnt that the Speaker has been boasting around that the GAC cannot take any decision against him.
But a top source also told Thepledge that the three the Senators representing the State at the National Assembly might pose a strong obstacle as they are opposed to Obasa’s antics and want him removed as Speaker.
The crisis in the legislative arm in Lagos, often regarded as the power base of the National Leader, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu will be closely watched by Lagosians to see how they will resolve the leadership crisis before it implodes and affect the fortunes of the party in the State.
