As insecurity continued to ravage the nation, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday charged the National Assembly to cut short their vacation and summon President Muhammadu Buhari.
The party also charged the National Assembly to ask President Buhari to tell Nigerians, why the nation has bled this much, and how the security apparatus has totally collapsed in his hands and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Addressing newsmen in Abuja at a press conference, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Kola Ologbondiyan also called on the Nigerian Governors’ Forum and all stakeholders across the country to wake up and rescue the nation.
The party alerted that the security situation in the country has gone so bad that school children cannot go to schools, farmers cannot go to farms and most, unfortunately, the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA) Kaduna was desecrated by bandits to the extent that they entered the academy and snuffed live out of three officers and took one away effortlessly.
The party said: “We as a party is calling on the National Assembly to cut short their vacation and return to plenary and apply their drastic legislative instrument by summoning President Muhammadu Buhari to the National Assembly in an open session to come and tell Nigerians, why our nation has bled this much, and how the security apparatus of our country has totally collapsed in the hands of Mr President, and the All Progressives Congress.
“We call on the Nigerian Governors’ Forum and all stakeholders across the country to wake up and rescue our country. Time is running out. Terrorists and bandits have taken over our land.”
The party lamented that the nation is collapsing under the watch of President Buhari as bandits and criminals are operating freely from every part of the country including the home state of the President.
The party lamented that on Tuesday, 39 helpless Nigerians were massacred in Plateau state, leading to the closure of the University of Jos, while several state governors currently evacuating their citizens.
The party further pointed out that the security situation has so much deteriorated that the governor of Katsina State, Buhari’s home state had to ask his citizens to seek any means to protect themselves.
PDP said: “The Katsina state government had announced in the state that citizens who have no gun, who have no means of defence, to come up and defend themselves against terrorists, assailants and bandits. This situation appears to have politically overwhelmed Mr President and is very painful.
“His administration has not demonstrated any capacity to protect the lives and property of our country.
“We cannot continue this way. We cannot continue to put our hope on anything. The situation that our children cannot go to school, a situation that farmers cannot go to their farmland is unacceptable.”
The party asked Nigerians to keep their faith alive with the opposition party, claiming that it has all it takes to reverse the trend and get the country back on the path of growth.
The party spokesman, who refused to answer questions bothering on the crisis rocking the party, added that the PDP is united and stronger.
It was, however, learnt that the leadership of the party will be meeting on Thursday on the crisis in the party and also to have a stakeholders’ meeting on Friday. The PDP governors are also meeting on Thursday on the crisis bedevilling the party.
