It’s Not ‘Rocket Science’ Ending Insurgency In North East – Senator Abbo

Published

on

The Senator representing Adamawa North Senatorial district, Ishaku Elisha Abbo has said it is not difficult ending Boko Haram attacks and other criminal activities in the North East.

To end insurgency, he said, required commitment of government in establishing security formations in some strategic areas in the North, with the business of facing Sambisa forest alone.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Thursday after a one day public hearing on a bill to establish a Federal Medical Centre, Mubi, the lawmaker said ‘it’s not a rocket science’, ending Boko Haram activities.

According to him, the war against insurgents should be taken from Adamawa axis because of its close proximity to Sambisa forest, while he also suggested establishment of battalions.

He said: “I told the current Chief of Army Staff, just like I told the former Inspector General of Police the same thing, that all you need to do is to create a battalion and position that battalion in the axis of Madagali.

“This will create a buffer between Adamawa and Sambisa forest. This should be purely infantry, well skilled, well trained, well armed. Position one battalion between Borno and Adamawa; position one battalion in Uba and that will create a buffer there in Sambisa forest; position one battalion in Garkida which will make a brigade.

“With battalion in Madagali, Uba, Garkida, no Boko Haram will enter Adamawa State. Is it difficult to create? It is not difficult.

“So, the government has to change their strategy, even Abuja is not safe. It not only Adamawa that is not safe. Go to Kwali in the night and come back to tell me about what you see. Or drive to Kuje or Abaji in the night and see what I am talking about.

“So on this matter, if government is committed to ending insecurity, we can end it. It’s not impossible; it’s not a rocket science.”

He urged government to be alive to its primary responsibility of protecting lives and property, describing as unacceptable, killings, destruction of properties and heinous crimes going on in the country.

“Let me be frank with you. The primary responsibility of government as enshrined in the Constitution of Nigeria is number one: security, two welfare of the people. Any government that fails in these two, is a failed government,” he said.

Abbo, who is the Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Navy, disclosed how he suggested a strategy to end insurgency, but the past heads of security agencies paid deaf ears.

“Few days ago, as the Vice Chairman of the Committee on Nigerian Navy, and member Senate Committee on Defence, Mr President sent names of Service Chiefs to the Senate for confirmation.

“Their names were referred to the Committee. Now we decided to bring all of them together in the spirit of collaboration.

“Part of what I told them during a closed-door session is why should a State like Adamawa continue to be attacked by Boko Haram?

“The strategy that is currently put in place has to be reviewed. I went ahead to make a submission and I am going to meet with the Chief of Army Staff next week. From Madagali to Sambisa forest is about seven kilometers,” he added.

Don’t Die For Politicians – Nigerians React As Tinubu, Atiku Meet

Published

on

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar and former Lagos Governor, Bola Tinubu met at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja on Friday night.

Atiku arrived from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the same time Tinubu was within the premises.

Tinubu walked towards Atiku as he alighted from his vehicle and they exchanged pleasantries.

The development confirmed the two are not enemies as suggested in some quarters.

Despite political leanings and different party affiliation, the prominent politicians are longtime allies.

Tinubu is the national leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), while Atiku was Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in 2019.

In October 2020, Tinubu attended the wedding of Aliyu and Fatima, the children of Atiku and Nuhu Ribadu, ex-Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Nigerians on Twitter are reacting to the latest meeting, advising citizens, especially the youths, not to die for politicians.

@konis_v: If you like, die in their fight. We citizens are the pawns in this game of chess.

@adamugarba: Their aim? Political Power. But you are busy blocking/insulting people for just disagreeing with you. Remind me of your aim again.

@femi_atere: In Nigeria politics, we only have political opponents. The rants and bants end in the field of politics. Once their interests and greed intersect they become colleagues. To Nigeria youths, if you like, kill yourselves in 2023 for them.

@Theonly1acre: In politics no permanent friends or enemies, just create your personal value system.

@EmmaMillelJnr: Those who have permanent political enemies, shine eyes woo!

@TheOladeile: I am not surprised that Tinubu received Atiku at the airport. Both men have been allies in business and politics for decades.

BBNaija Star, Alex Threatens To Discipline Uncultured Street Kids Who Wash People’s Cars In Traffic

Published

on

Reality tv star, Alex has threatened to discipline disrespectful street children who forcefully wash cars in traffic.

According to Alex who took to social media to pass her message to the government, she is ready to instill discipline in the street kids who put up rude behaviours in traffic.

Giving her reason for the above, she made it known that the kids forcefully wash cash in traffic and when they are refused payment for a job they were not tasked to do, they scratch the car or leave the foam on the car to dry.

She seems to be a victim hence her plea to the government to get the kids off the street or face her wrath in the coming days. Apparently, she lets it sly when they put up such disrespectful behaviour, now she has had enough and she is ready to flog discipline into them.

Dear Government, this is me announcing in advance. One day, I’ll come down from the car and flog training into one of these children that forcefully clean cars in traffic then leave the foam or scratch the cars when you don’t have cash to give.

I usually make excuses for them as I understand that they aren’t taught to do better but it’s frustrating. Then again, it’s our duty as a government to get these kids out of the streets and I see little or no efforts being made. Dear Government, je kori e pe o.

I’ve said my own now before anyone will see any video anywhere or on any useless blog and call me wicked. I’ll flog that child and still give him/her money if I wish but they need to understand that one day, someone will have their time and also that they need to do better.
