Reactions have trailed the reports on Thursday of the arrest of two prominent Nigerians charged by the Metropolitan Police with conspiring to bring a child to the UK in order to harvest organs.

The two persons are believed to be former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, and his wife, Beatrice.

As earlier reported by Naija News, Ekweremadu and his wife were arrested in London by the Specialist Crime Team of the UK Metropolitan Police.

In a statement on Thursday, the Metropolitan Police confirmed that the pair conspired to facilitate the travel of a child to the county in order to harvest the minor’s organ.

According to the police, the pair have been charged to court following an investigation by its special crime team.

The police added that the investigation was launched after detectives were alerted to potential offences under modern slavery legislation in May 2022.

It, however, added that the child has been taken into protective custody.

Following the disclosure, Nigerians have taken to the micro-blogging site, Twitter to share their views about the development.

While some expressed shock, others said nothing can be put past Nigerian politicians and called for a greater investigation, pointing out that more sordid details may be exposed by investigating the matter.

Others who expressed their views also linked it with the killings and other crimes currently prevalent in the southeast while some others said it is a repercussion for his verbal attack against Peter Obi.

However, the Uxbridge Magistrate Court in the United Kingdom has denied former deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice bail concerning their involvement in alleged human trafficking and organ harvesting.

The duo were arrested on Thursday by the Police in London.

It was gathered that their alleged victim in the case is a homeless 15-year-old boy who was brought to the U.K. by Mr and Mrs Ekweremadu off the streets of Lagos in Nigeria.

They were were remanded in the custody of the Police.

Their case has been adjourned to July 7, 2022.

See some reactions.

Following this Ike Ekweremadu stinker, one can only imagine the depth of dastardly acts these politicians perpetrate.

Ike Ekweremadu and his wife were remanded by the Metropolitan Police UK for conspiring to bring a child to the UK for organ harvesting!!!

This is a NIGERIAN SENATOR for crying out loud.

What sort of wickedness is this???
What does he want that he doesn’t already have???

— SportsDokita (Odogwu ☝️) (@Sports_Doctor2) June 23, 2022

Ike Ekweremadu with all the money he has gotten from Nigeria still got involved in organ trafficking. It means one thing, these politicians are greedy, they’re money drunk and they would do anything to get money even if it means taking the lives of those they promised to serve 😞

— Chlorpheniramine #EndSARS 🇳🇬 (@VictorIsrael_) June 23, 2022

The Ike Ekweremadu who promised PDP my vote and the votes of all South Easterners might actually be in jail when the election will hold in Nigeria.

Inside life.

I don’t even know how to process this Ike Ekweremadu news, it’s both unbelievably shocking and wicked.

Organ harvesting is next level wickedness.

— Sammy Desh (@Deshysmalls) June 23, 2022

When David Hundeyin uncovered about underground organ harvesting market, some of you insulted him because he was pointing fingers to some politicians, now Ike Ekweremadu own don show. UK should throw them inside forever jail.

— Ada Idemmili OGBANJE 👨‍👩‍👦 Labour party (@adaigbo_2022) June 23, 2022

UK police have arrested Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife for alleged organ trafficking.

Well, the good news is they were caught in UK, not in Nigeria. So if guilty, they will face the wrath of the law!

First it was Fr Mbaka ,now Ike Ekweremadu. Who’s next??
Peter Obi’s movement is a divine mandate y’all, go against it and get axed…Don’t play yourself!!

If convicted, Ike Ekweremadu won’t even be in Nigeria during the 2023 general election.

One down. Who is fighting Peter Obi again?

— Kadosh! (@Dopicah) June 23, 2022

Ike Ekweremadu yesterday was dishing out orders that all Igbos must vote for PDP in 2023 presidential election and not Peter Obi.

Today the U K police arrested him on the charges of organ trafficking. If he is convicted he will be imprison for a very long time…… pic.twitter.com/HWrzOu16R9

— Samson Famous (@SamsonFamous4) June 23, 2022

When Ini’s Umoren death happened (RIP), David Hundeyin uncovered a story about how top politicians are involved in organ trafficking… Nobody debunked the news, no justice for Ini yet, almost everyone forgot about the investigations…… Now this news about Ike Ekweremadu https://t.co/jvlwBAWDBX

— Cruise Mistress 🦅🐺💰 (@dat_deltagirl) June 23, 2022

Lmao people being proper shocked at that news of Ike Ekweremadu and his wife have too much faith in Nigerian politicians.
Whatever they say a Nigerian politician did, he did that shit and if they investigate properly, so much more.

— Chief. (@BadmanSophss) June 23, 2022

Hearing news of Ike Ekweremadu involved in an alleged organ trafficking reminds me of Hiny Umoren. The young lady who went to look for a Job. There’s obviously an Organ trafficking cartel controlled by top politicians in the country. They’re stealing our money & still killing us

— Chlorpheniramine #EndSARS 🇳🇬 (@VictorIsrael_) June 23, 2022

Ike Ekweremadu trafficking a child for organ harvest is the worse crime on earth, this will show how evil they & the reason we the new generation can never allow these criminals to be part of Biafra restoration. They will fight to remain in Nigeria where their crimes are covered

— Simon Ekpa (@simon_ekpa) June 23, 2022

This exposition of organ harvesting and human trafficking allegations on Sen Ike Ekweremadu and his wife could possibly open the pandora box to the spate of kidnappings in the east.

— FS Yusuf (@FS_Yusuf_) June 23, 2022

The kidnappings and killings in the southeast should be investigated.

The story of Ike Ekweremadu and Beatrice Ekweremadu harvesting organs and selling them in the UK reveals a lot.

I can talk of two individuals I know in the southeast that got kidnapped. No word from the

— Everest (@novieverest) June 23, 2022

With this Ike Ekweremadu’s news, it’s like Peter Obi is truly a “rock of offense” and anyone who falls on him will be shattered. Coming days will be interesting.

— Guy (@Yourplugforlife) June 23, 2022

Mbaka attacked Peter Obi and lost his Adoration Ground
Wike attacked Peter Obi and lost the Primaries
Ike Ekweremadu attacked Peter Obi and got arrested for Organ Trafficking in the UK.
It seems this Peter Obi movement has become spiritual. 😹😹#PeterObi2023 #PeterObi4President

— NK£M #PeterObi2023 (@Nkemchor_) June 23, 2022

Ike Ekweremadu and his wife have been charged with conspiring to bring child to UK to harvest organs, same clown was castigating Peter Obi yesterday, I love that he was caught in UK, he’ll face the law, not every place is as lawless as Nigeria.

— OTUNBA 🇨🇦 (@ManLikeIcey) June 23, 2022

You see how Igbo people are celebrating the arrest of Ike Ekweremadu? You would even wonder if he’s Igbo. Igbos banish evil people not support them.

Igbos don’t play ethnic politics and that’s why the SE never supported any Igbo presidential candidate until Peter Obi came.

— Eko L’omo (@escobless) June 23, 2022

From my Google searches, Nigeria’s former deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu could be in big trouble. The official release pointedly didn’t mention his background but the profile of the woman and that of the man match that of the politician.

— JJ. Omojuwa (@Omojuwa) June 23, 2022

That the former deputy senate president might be involved in organ trafficking is shocking…

Who else is? What will push humans to such levels of wickedness.

The same Ike Ekweremadu?

— Dr. Chinonso Egemba (@aproko_doctor) June 23, 2022

Per allegations, it’s either Ike Ekweremadu, his wife, or one of their children has a medical condition and they brought another person’s child into the UK to harvest their organs and use them. Whatever it is, this is so shocking. The UK doesn’t play with children.

— Dr Dípò Awójídé (@OgbeniDipo) June 23, 2022

Meanwhile, Deji Adeyanju, a socio-political commentator, has urged Nigerians to be careful when travelling abroad.

Adeyanju said this while reacting to reports making the rounds that two Nigerians were arrested in the United Kingdom (UK) over alleged organ harvesting.

Reacting, Adeyanju, in a tweet on his official Twitter handle, said he would wait to hear more details about Ekweremadu’s issue.

He tweeted: “I will wait to hear more details about the Ekweremadu’s issue but people should be extremely careful when traveling abroad. When leaving Nigeria, I don’t even check in any bag before an airport staff is paid ordinary N50k to plant drugs in my bag.”

Also, Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) on Thursday expressed delight over the arrest and detention of Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife in London over alleged organ harvesting.

Recall that two Nigerians, Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu were arrested in the UK for plotting to bring in a child from Nigeria for organ harvesting.

The couple who have been denied bail was charged with conspiracy to arrange and facilitate the travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.

It was gathered that the alleged victim is a homeless 15-year-old boy who was brought to the UK by Mr and Mrs Ekweremadu.

Reacting, MASSOB said Ekweremadu is suffering from the sabotage campaign, he is leading against national Justice and Peter Obi emerging as the next president of Nigeria.

”We are ashamed of these sacrilegious and irresponsible acts of a so-called national leader. What kind of monetary inducement will make Ike Ekweremadu and his wife stoop so low for this criminality if not they are mentally slaved and subjected by the Hausa Fulani oligarchy as political errand boy and girl.

”Ike Ekweremadu and all his political gangs from South East involved in campaigns of thwarting the emerging of a competent president that will redeem the future of the Nigeria youths will experience similar shames like their bought master.

Okada Gradually Resurfaces In Lagos One Month After Sanwo-Olu’s Ban

Published

on

By Augustine Akhilomen

One month after the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu enforced the ban on Okada riders in the state, it appears the ban has failed to achieve its purpose as they are gradually resurfacing their ugly heads in some of the eyebrow areas.

Recall that on June 1, the state commenced ‘operation clean okada’ in six Local Governments areas of the state. The local governments and local council development areas affected by the ban are Ikeja, Surulere, Eti-Osa, Mainland, Lagos Island and Apapa.

The ban was meant to sanitise the streets of Lagos from the chaos being caused by the Okada riders coupled with the level of insecurity and the gruesome killing of a sound engineer, David Imoh, allegedly by commercial motorcyclists in the Lekki axis of the state.

No doubt, there was a sigh of relief for most Lagosians and motorists within the first few weeks when the Lagos Task Force embarked on a thorough arrest and confiscation of okadas in the state.

Recall that more than 2,228 motorcycles, popularly called Okada seized in areas where their operations have been proscribed have been crushed by the Task Force, a move worth commendable.

It has also curbed and reduced the rate of fatal accidents and criminal activities perpetrated by them.

However, since the beginning of the week, Thepledge have observed some lapses as it appears the streets of Lagos is gradually painted with the return of okadas in areas such as Surulere, Oshodi, Berger, Okota, Apapa, Ikeja, others despite the ban enforcement.

The presence of police in some traffic light sections doesn’t create any sort of panic from the Okada riders as they calmly make their way with their passengers.

Besides, a few of the okada riders who spoke to Thepledge said that they are taking the risk because they have family to feed and there are no alternative jobs for them.

One Mr Boniface stated that he understands the danger of plying routes that govt said they should not pass but that he has no choice because of his family.

“The ban on okada riders has seriously affected me a lot and I can’t continue to stay at home since I have a family to cater for. So I decided to take the risk of passing through those places that govt said we should not pass.”

Another okada rider who doesn’t want his name to be mentioned told Thepledge that he has to wait for some weeks in order to walk the streets of Lagos. .

“I know for sure that this ban will only last for some weeks so I decided to park my okada for some time before starting my okada business again. Everything in life is time and I know the government will relax a bit soon.”

Also, a middle aged man told Thepledge that the government is also losing from the money they generate from them through the use of tickets.

‘The truth is that the state govt are one way or the other losing lots of money from tickets that they issue to us everyday. We know quite alright that the ban was for the safety and security of our lives but then, its implementation should not be to the detriment of our daily bread.”

Some are of the belief that with the 2023 election gradually winding down, the government has decided to relax the rules in a bid to win the ‘sympathy’ of the okada riders through their votes.

Recently, Sanwo-Olu noted that the decision to ban ‘Okada’ in the state was not easy while seeking re-election

While explaining the purpose of the ban, he said such a critical decision was only made for the benefit of the people and not a political action.

“It’s not too easy. When in a political terrain, especially when you’re going for re-election and like I said, you are jumping up and down. You have to make a decision that is so critical like that, and stay within because indeed a lot of people believe that everything that politicians do must have a political meaning but sometimes, we stay with our words and indeed believe the need to ensure that you know that people benefit from it greatly.”

” When we took the initiative to say we also wanted to ban okada a couple of weeks ago, people never believed that it was meant to happen. It was going to be a thing that we can do. I want to thank all of you for the support we’ve recorded so far.”

Could this be a sign of early panic from the Governor? Or a sign of setting the record straight as par the achievement recorded with the ban?

With just eight months to the 2023 election, It is yet to be seen how far the Sanwo-Olu can go on this crucial Okada ban, knowing fully that they may also rely on the votes of some of the okada riders.

Beyond this however is the fear that if the ban is not properly enforced the effects on crime rate in the state will always put the government at the receiving end.

“The governor should be ready to bear the blame if there is an increase in crime rate and other things that are inimical to the peace and progress of the state. The people are watching closely to see if Sanwo-Olu will match his words with action”, says Tunde Omilani, a Lagos based lawyer.

How Funke Akindele’s Broken Marriage May Affect Her Political Ambition

Published

on

It is no longer news that Funke Akindele Bello and her husband, Abdulrasheed Bello, known as JJC Skilz, have parted ways over irreconcilable differences.

According to the statement released earlier this morning by JJC Skillz, he and his wife are no longer together because she had refused to settle their differences amicably even after putting on a lovely front at the 2022 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA).

“Dear Friends and family I need to let you know that Funke and I have separated. While it lasted we shared a lot of things together and have created 2 beautiful children. The last two years have been extremely difficult for us. I know I have tried my best to fix things but I believe it is beyond repair now. 3 months ago and at Funkes insistence I moved out of the house and apart from AMVCA have not been able to get Funke to sit down in an amicable manner to discuss the future of our relationship. I’m making this announcement so that the public is clear that we both are pursuing separate lives. We still have issues that need to be addressed such as the custody and wellbeing of our children which is paramount as well as business interests which need to be disentangled but I have no doubt that these will be resolved one way or the other

Mr Abdul Bello”

Numerous reports trailing this development have alleged both sides of been faulty in their marriage breakup saga.

Different online reports cited infidelity, ego and mismanagement of funds as the central theme of Funke Akindele and JJC Skillz’s separation.

Recall that Funke Akindele had refused to speak concerning the update released by her husband on social media. However, the actress and mother of two had maintained her husband’s surname on her Instagram profile.

One of the concerns raised by Funke Akindele’s fans was her budding political ambition.

It is unclear if her broken marriage will affect her selection as the deputy governor of Lagos state for the upcoming general elections.

Also the Jenifa’s Diary crooner was nominated alongside four others as deputy governors for the Peoples Democratic Party gubernatorial candidate for the upcoming Lagos State elections.

The shortlisted names include Funke Akindele, popularly known as Jenifa; former governorship aspirant Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour; former Senatorial candidate for Lagos East, Yeye Shobajo, another governorship aspirant, David Kolawole Vaughan known as DAKOVA, and Engr. Teslim Balogun.

At the time of this report, Funke Akindele has yet to disclose or divulge any news regarding her marriage or political ambition.

Fresh PDP crisis: Why Wike, Ortom Shouldn’t Be Attacked, Omokri Speaks

Published

on

A former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, on Thursday said “nobody in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), should disparage” Governors Nyesom Wike and Samuel Ortom.

Recall that according to Omokri, both men “laboured to build” the PDP.

“Stooping to conquer is not weakness. Nobody in the PDP should disparage Wike or Ortom. They should be appealed to and listened to. The PDP ought to seek to understand them. And then to accommodate them. When people who labour to build get angry, you embrace them!” Omokri said via a Twitter post.

The opposition party went into another round of crisis after its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, picked Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as his running mate for the 2023 elections.

The development has degenerated into a full-blown disagreement among party leaders with Ortom, the Governor of Benue State, asking Atiku to ‘appease’ Wike, Rivers State governor, who came second in the presidential primary election in May.

In a similar vein, Ayodele Fayose, a former Governor of Ekiti State, and presidential aspirant, also dumped Atiku, and expressed his support for a Southern candidate, increasing speculations that he’ll throw his weight behind the candidature of Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
