Mailafia’s Death ‘Fishy’, Should Be Investigated, Omokri, Sowore Speak Out

…He May Have Been Killed, HURIWA Alleges

…Nigerians React As NCFront Vows To Investigate Cause Of Death

Nigerian socio-political activist, Reno Omokri and human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore have reacted to the death of Mailafia Obadiah, ex-Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

Omokri urged relevant authorities to independently investigate Mailafia’s death.

In a tweet, the former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, said Mailafia’s death was “fishy.”

“Mailafia’s passing is fishy and should be independently investigated,” he tweeted.

The former presidential candidate died at the National Hospital in Abuja.

Mailafia, who is an indigene of Southern Kaduna, recently accused some government officials of being responsible for terrorism in Nigeria.

In the same vein, human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore has mourned a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr. Obadiah Mailafia

Reacting on Sunday in a Facebook post and on Twitter, Sowore described the deceased as a powerful voice for social justice.

“Dr. Malafia Obadiah is Dead. He was a powerful voice for social justice, although he was said to have died after a ‘protracted illness’, it is however on record that he was hounded till the very end by the lawless DSS agents of the unconscionable and tyrannical regime of Muhammadu Buhari. Rest In Power, Doc! #RevolutionNow #BuhariMustGo,” the activist wrote.

Meanwhile, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has called for an investigation into the death of Obadiah Mailaifia, former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

HURIWA said Mailafia may have been killed “extralegally,” hence his death should be probed.

The rights group recalled how the former presidential candidate had raised an alarm over threats to life but security agents failed to probe his claim.

HURIWA made the call in a statement by its National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko and the National Media Affairs Director Miss Zainab Yusuf.

According to HURIWA: “One year ago, precisely on September 11, 2020 at the height of the incessant harassment by the Department of State Services and the Nigeria Police Force, the former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and a critic of the current administration Dr Obadiah Mailafiya raised the alarm of death threat as follows: “Please, pray for me. I have reasons to believe that my life is in danger and that some powerful political forces want to silence me forever for speaking the truth. For speaking on behalf of the Holy Martyrs — of thousands of innocent children, women, elderly and youths that have been killed in our beloved country”.

“There are very unassailable reasons to believe that the alarm he raised which was never investigated may be the harbinger of his sudden demise in Abuja on Sunday September 19th 2021, hence the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, which is calling for independent investigation on his death.”

The rights group urged the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union, SOKAPU, to jointly hire “top notch forensic investigation teams to independently probe the immediate and remote circumstances of the death of Obadiah Mailaifia so as to ascertain the exact cause of the death of a man who since the past few Years became the voice of truth against the powers- that -be and the champion of the PRINCIPLE OF RULE OF LAW IN NIGERIA.”

HURIWA regretted that Nigeria seems to have become the killer of her best citizens, adding that “persons who speak truth to power in the past six and half years have come under persistent attacks and pressure from forces embedded within the Nigerian Security Forces and the political class in charge of government at all levels to an extent that even the central ruling party – ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS has gone all out to try to sponsor many toxic, obnoxious and unconstitutional bills all aimed at curtailing the enjoyment of the constitutionally guaranteed fundamental human rights recognised in chapter 4 of the Nigerian constitution.”

In addition, some Nigerians have expressed shock over the death of former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr. Obadiah Mailafia.

ng, some Nigerian on Twitter alleged that he was killed for being vocal against the current administration.

Below are some reactions:

They have finally murdered the Man who spoke truth to power on Boko Haram, Bandits and Fulani Herdsmen and as it is now, it is actually not a joke

All I can say is God do not let them win. This man revealed a lot unknown to us, if truly he died then it’s so easy to add everything together, nobody can be dumb anymore from this point…there was a reason God gave him boldness to speak out, at least we are aware now!

Evil people has killed his body but his spirit man continues to live for eternity. Do not be afraid of those who can kill the body but not the soul . Only fear he “Jehova” who can kill both the body and soul.

More so, the National Leaders of Conscience under the auspices of the National Consultative Front, NCFront, an emergent political movement of a group of eminent leaders of thought working towards the emergence of a new Nigeria that works for all by 2023 wish to express deep shock and sadness over the passing of our associate and founding member of the Front, Dr Obadiah Mailafia, former presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC in the 2019 general elections in Nigeria

It will be recalled that Mailafia until his unbelievable demise today was a member of the National Steering Council and the North Central Facilitator of the NCFront, who raised the bar of commitment to the tasks of the movement, constantly advocating a fair, just and equitable governance of Nigeria therefore becoming a Frontline member of the National Constitutional Dialogue Committee initiated by the movement to stem the heightening constitutional crisis and political agitations and insecurity traceable to the inherent flaws and pit falls of the Nigerian Constitution foisted on the country by the Nigerian military at the outset of current troubled democracy in 1999

In demonstration of his huge commitment to the movement, Obadiah Mailafia last week gave a positive feedback to the National Secretariat of the NCFront on a tactical task given to him by the movement towards ensuring cohesion and stability in the North Central and Middle Belt region ahead of the people’s constitutional dialogue in the region, showing no sign of illness.

Memories of his various endeavors and contributions will be remembered and honoured by the NCFront during the 2nd National Rescue Summit being planned by the NCFront to commemorate Nigeria’s 61st Independence Anniversary on 1st October, 2021

The movement however wishes to condole and commiserate with the family of its departed Leader, Obadiah Mailafia, praying for the repose of his soul and fortitude and strength for members of his family and promising investigation into his sudden death

As an indomitable Icon of the NCFront rescue mission, Dr Obadiah Mailafia will be greatly missed by the leadership of the NCFront, which include, Rt Hon Ghali Umar Na’aba, Prof Pat Utomi, Prof Atahiru Jega, Dr Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, Dr Hakeem Baba Ahmed, Dr Tokunbo Awolowo Dosunmu, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, Dr Mike Ozekhome, SAN, Mallam Bello Falalu, Prof Kingsley Moghalu, Hadjia Najatu Mohammed, Hon Nkoyo Toyo, Dr Usman Bugaje, Dr Olu Agunloye, Rev Father George Ehusani, Engr Buba Galadima, Mr Femi Fálànà, SAN, Dr Tanko Yunusa, Chief Raph Okey Nwosu, Senator Shehu Sanni, Prof Chidi Odinkalu, Dr Bilikisu Magoro, Barr Dan Nwanyawu, Arc Ezekiel Nyak Etok, Dr Aisha Lemu, Prof Anthony Kila, Dr Olu Wilson Usim, Alhaji Shettimah Yerima, Dr Chris Ekiyor, High Chief Peter Ameh, Barr Promise Adewusi, Dr Timi Koripamo Agary, Comrade Joe Ajaegbo, Barr Toyin Tokuta, Chief Precious Elekima, Dr Sam Amadi, Prof Remi Sonaiya, Mallam Nasir Kura, Hon Mrs Janet Adeyemi, Ogbeni Lanre Banjo, Barr Adewole Adebayo, ACG Wakili, Dr Gbenga Adeoye, Alhaji Hamisu San Turaki, Mrs Habiba Balogun, Lady Ann Kio Briggs, Mr Segun Osinowo, Barr Eze Onyekpere, Comrade Kassim Balarabe Musa, Che Olawale Okunniyi, National Scribe, among others

Senator Afikuyomi Greets Mustapha On Turbaning As Turaki Of Ilorin

The Royal Turbaning of Alhaji Saliu Mustapha as the Turaki of Ilorin by His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, is a worthy recognition of Alhaji Mustapha’s contribution to nation-building, according to Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi, a long-term associate of the new Turaki.

Afikuyomi stressed in a statement that Alhaji Saliu Mustapha has been conscientious in politics, and painstaking in humanitarian services, not just around the people of Ilorin Emirate alone, but in the entire Kwara State and in Nigeria as a whole.

According to the Senator, who once represented both, Lagos Central Senatorial District, and Lagos West Senatorial District. Mustapha’s decent politics, maturity and candor have combined to portray him as a rare breed amongst the pack, which is why he is often welcomed in any circle he has pitched tent with.

“He has a great sense of fairness, comportment and is also result oriented. A loyal friend, with a god-fearing disposition, he passes as one of the most respectable public figures from Kwara State,” Afikuyomi added.

The senator summed that with his turbaning as the Turaki of Ilorin, he was confident that he will impact on the people of the peace-loving emirate, in line with the vision of His Royal Highness, and the expectations of citizens.

“May God almighty give him the wisdom, good health and longevity to deliver the much-needed goods for his people, his fans and for humanity at large. Congratulations to a good friend,” the Senator concluded.

How I Was Sexually Abused At 13 By My Teacher, Ex-Man Utd Defender, Evra Makes Startling Revelation

Former Manchester United defender, Patrice Evra, has revealed he suffered sexual abuse as a teenager.

Evra, in an interview with The Times ahead of the release of his autobiography entitled ‘I Love This Game’, said the incident took place when he was 13.

The ex-France international is only now disclosing it at 40, even to his mother and family.

Evra recounted how he stayed at his principal’s home having moved to a new school. At his home inside the school grounds, the teacher would let him play Nintendo and help with his homework.

“I now recognise that he’d tried to groom me,” he said.

Evra continued: “The head teacher, believing I’d gone to sleep, would put his hands under my bedcover and try to touch me. I knew what he was doing was wrong, so I tried to push him away and punch him.

“I was tough, but I was scared too, although I couldn’t show him my fear. This could go on for 10 or 15 minutes, like a fight. He wasn’t joking; he was going hard trying to get my pants off.

“There were no words spoken in the dark, but he was touching himself and getting sexually excited by what was happening.

“I didn’t tell anybody. I was too ashamed to speak to my mother and I didn’t know if anyone else would believe me. I haven’t told anybody the full story until now.”

Evra reveals that “On the last night at that man’s house, when he knew that I was going back to my family, he finally succeeded: He put my penis in his mouth.”

I’m Determined To End My Career At Liverpool, Says Salah

Mohamed Salah has told Liverpool he wants to stay for the rest of his career, but the Egypt forward insisted the success of his contract negotiations with the club “doesn’t depend on me”.

Salah’s current contract expires in 2023 and Liverpool are trying to finalise a new long-term deal.

The 29-year-old has so far been unable to come to terms with the Reds amid reports he wants wages that would make him one of the Premier League’s top earners.

That has sparked fears Salah will leave Anfield eventually, a concern fuelled when he flirted with Real Madrid last season.

But, on the eve of Liverpool’s clash with arch rivals Manchester United on Sunday, Salah put the ball in his club’s court as he said he would stay forever given the chance.

“It doesn’t depend on me, but if you asked me I would love to stay until the last day of my football career,” Salah told Sky Sports on Friday.

“But I can’t say much about that, it’s not in my hands. It depends on what the club wants. It doesn’t depend on me.

“At the moment, I can’t see myself ever playing against Liverpool. That would make me sad.

“It’s hard. I don’t want to talk about it, but it would make me really sad and at the moment I don’t see myself playing against Liverpool, but let’s see what will happen in the future.”

Salah has been in superb form for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season, scoring 12 goals in 11 appearances in all competitions.

He is the first Liverpool player ever to score in nine successive games in all competitions and he also became the fastest player to score 100 goals for Liverpool in September.

Salah’s majestic goals against Manchester City and Watford recently were considered early contenders for goal of the season.
