Ekiti APC Crisis Deepens As Ojudu Faction Suspends Fayemi

Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State has lashed out at President Buhari’s special adviser on political matters, Babafemi Ojudu over report of his alleged visit to the presidential villa in Abuja to secure President Muhammadu Buhari’s support for Victor Giadom as the Acting Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Fayemi who accused Ojudu of blackmail and being behind the “fabricated” report, stated that he had no plan nor reason to see President Buhari on Tuesday afternoon.

In statement released by his Chief Press Secretary Yinka Oyebode, Governor Fayemi said he met with Buhari earlier in company of three of his colleagues – Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi), Governor Simon Lalong (Plateau) and Governor Badaru Abubakar (Jigawa). Also present at that meeting were the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof Ibrahim Gambari and Honourable Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.

The Ekiti state Governor who urged Nigerians to ignore the story which he said is a “highly illogical concoction”, said he later visited the presidential villa to meet with Buhari’s Chief of Staff Ibrahim Gambari, but not with Giadom.

The statement read; “The attention of the general public is being drawn to a misleading publication… with headline ‘Fayemi’s failed mission to Villa with Giadom’, published in the online edition… on Wednesday, June 24th, 2020.

“The falsehood, we gathered reliably, was fabricated by a senior aide of the Presidency and a former Senator, Babafemi Ojudu, and planted in The Nation Newspaper, after it was rejected by some State House Correspondents, who rebuffed the former Senator for the misleading and malicious story.

“It is on record that Senator Ojudu, in his desperate bid to rubbish Governor Fayemi, had told his close associates that he would battle Governor Fayemi, who is also the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) with falsehood and cheap blackmail in his nefarious attempt to destabilize APC in Ekiti State.

“For the purpose of clarity, it is important to state that the Nation’s report was clearly a misleading one designed to cast aspersion on the person of Governor Fayemi and create an impression that the NGF Chairman is an unwanted visitor at the Villa. The largely unsubstantiated report was filled with bile, childish and unexplainable fury that signified nothing, just like a tale fit only for the tabloids.

“In setting the record straight, we hereby state unequivocally that Governor Fayemi had no plan nor reason to see Mr President on Tuesday late afternoon as maliciously presented in the Nation’s report. The Governor, had earlier seen Mr President at noon in company of three of his colleagues – Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi), Governor Simon Lalong (Plateau) and Governor Badaru Abubakar (Jigawa). Also present at that meeting were the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof Ibrahim Gambari and Honourable Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.

“Governor Fayemi was in the villa later in the afternoon to see the COS and State Chief of Protocol (SCOP). The Ekiti State Governor was never denied any opportunity to see President Buhari as he did not ask to see the President and neither did he go with Chief Giadom.

“Governor Fayemi’s position on the APC crisis has been to consistently subsume his views in the position of the Progressives Governors Forum as expressed by the Chairman. He has not spoken on the party crisis in any public forum but continue to urge all members and lovers of the party to exercise restraint and support the leader of the party, President Mohammadu Buhari and other leaders desirous of resolution to give peace a chance.”

2023: No State Or Community Will Be Left Behind If I’m Elected President, Peter Obi Assures Nigerians

Published

on

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has promised that no state or community will be left behind in moving Nigeria forward.

He noted that if elected, his administration will tweak the security architecture, which will entail reform of security and governance. “We will restructure, re-equip and reorient the Nigerian Police: This will include 3 levels of policing- federal, state, and community,” he said.

Peter Obi disclosed this in his speech at Harvard University.

Obi said he will ensure that in moving Nigeria forward, no state or community will be left behind. Pursuant to its statutory responsibility to protect, our government will promote equity in power and resource sharing.

“The federating units will enjoy discernible autonomy. Resources will also be shared equitably. A higher derivation paid to oil or solid minerals-producing states will not be tantamount to other states not receiving federal allocations that should keep them viable.

“We will tweak the security architecture, which will entail reform of the security sector and governance. We will restructure, re-equip and reorient the Nigerian Police: This will include 3 levels of policing- federal, state, and community.

“We will build a compact, robust and ready mobile police force with rapid response deployment capabilities; and legislate the establishment of state police based on community policing. We will raise the population-to-police officer ratio to a higher level” he added.

On Nigeria’s role in Africa and insecurity, he added that we must think seriously about a leadership that is imbued with competence, capacity, credibility, and commitment. Accordingly, we will pursue intangible assets of good governance, rule of law, and the security of lives and properties.

He added his administration will ensure that they have these assets in place and stress asset optimization.

“We will strike a strategic balance that allows us to promote and protect national interest while meeting our ECOWAS obligations.

“We will rebuild Nigeria’s military power, promote economic growth, and enhance its technological prowess with a view to improving Nigeria’s diplomatic influence in sub-regional, regional and global affairs.

He added that restoring leadership will require that we reassert proactively, Nigeria’s leadership role in African affairs through constructive engagement, peacekeeping duties, and using existing sub-regional and regional forums as well as bilateral platforms for dialogue on current and emerging challenges. We will continue to enhance our sphere of influence via peacekeeping, and trade and investment initiatives.

Peter Obi Not Subject Of Soludo’s Meeting With APGA – Aide

Published

on

Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, has debunked reports suggesting that he ordered members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to work against the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi in the 2023 general elections.

In a statement, the Press Secretary to the Governor, Christian Aburime, denied the allegation, describing it as the handwork of faceless individuals. He said the immediate past governor of Anambra State was not a subject of the meeting with APGA members.

“The following should, however, be noted: Governor Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, only held a private meeting with his party members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). This meeting is a routine gathering where issues concerning APGA are discussed,” the statement read.

“At no time during the meeting was Mr Peter Obi, a point of discourse. It is pertinent to note that issues discussed at the meeting were purely issues relating to APGA affairs.”

The governor also asked Anambra residents and the general public to completely ignore and disregard the publication in all its entirety.

See the full statement issued below:

Re: Soludo charges Anambra APGA to Work Against Peter Obi, dreams of Presidency after Atiku

We note with disdain the fallacious and distasteful publication of a write-up with the above heading by a faceless individual(s).

We would have chosen to ignore this mischievous and utterly despicable publication, but for the benefit of a few innocent Ndi Anambra who could be misinformed by the write-up.

The following should, however, be noted:

1) That Governor Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, only held a private meeting with his party members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). This meeting is a routine gathering where issues concerning APGA are discussed.

At no time during the meeting was Mr Peter Obi, a point of discourse.
It is pertinent to note that issues discussed at the meeting were purely issues relating to APGA affairs
We, therefore, urge Ndi-Anambra and members of the general public to completely ignore and disregard the publication in all its entirety
