Partey Opens Up On Challenging Debut Season With Arsenal

Published

on

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has spoken candidly about his first season at the club.

The Ghanian, who is a self-professed Arsenal fan, arrived with big expectations from Atletico Madrid last summer.

However, the £45 million signing only managed 18 Premier League starts, with injuries hampering his ability to fully settle with the team.

Partey told Ghana’s TV3: “Well I think everybody has seen it, there’s been ups and downs.

“We’ve had good times and bad times, but this is my first season and I think I had to adapt to how they play, get used to my teammates.

“I think now I’m getting used to them and I know with hard work everything will be okay for the next season.

“Of course, it’s not easy. The Premier League is one of the best leagues in the world and if you want to be there you have to be able to do everything well. So I like this challenge and I’m ready to do everything.”

Gabriel Jesus will wear the number 9 shirt at Arsenal for the 2022/2023 season.

The Brazil striker is in the final stages of completing a £45 million move from Manchester City, having undergone his medicals with the Gunners.

On Wednesday, Jesus was caught on camera at the Emirates Stadium donning his new shirt, Goal reports.

The no 9 shirt has become available following the departure of Alexandre Lacazette from Arsenal as a free agent.

Lacazette, who has re-joined Lyon this summer, wore the jersey since the 2017/2018 campaign.

Before then, Arsenal’s No.9 spot was filled by Lucas Perez, Lukas Podolski, Chu-young Park, Eduardo and Julio Baptista.

I Pray Mane Wins Ballon d’Or, Says Yaya Toure

Former Ivory Coast midfielder, Yaya Toure, believes new Bayern Munich signing Sadio Mane will win the Ballon d’Or.

The 30-year-old enjoyed a good 2021/2022 season with Liverpool and Senegal.

At club level, Mane netted 21 goals in 48 matches across all competitions.

During that period, the Premier League side won the League and FA cups, and went on to reach the Champions League final. The Reds also finished second in the Premier League race won by the Citizens.

Mane also scored crucial goals to help Senegal win their maiden Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) trophy and helped them qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

“I see that [Mane] has chained a lot of matches, that he has suffered from very few injuries,” Toure told RFI.

“He is hardly ever injured, he is very strong physically. He’s also a good guy, a good person that I know personally. I want the best for him.

“I hope he will have a good [World Cup] tournament and I hope he won’t just be ranked high but win the Ballon d’Or. Sadio Mane is a great player and a great person.
