Premier League: Liverpool Set To Compound Hundersfield’s Woes Today

With just three matches to the conclusion of this season’s Premier League, Liverpool’s title ambition will come under scrutiny as the Reds host relegated Huddersfield at Anfield today (Friday).

There is no doubt that every points count for a Liverpool side that sit second on the log on 88 points while hoping that league leaders and reigning EPL champions, Manchester City who currently has 89 points, drops a point.

Whichever way, attention will be focused on tonight’s encounter against Huddersfield as they hope to retain the top spot pending when City will play on Sunday against Burnley.

Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp’s side have been beaten just once in the league all season – away to Man City in January – and are undefeated in 14 since then, winning each of the last six in a row since the goalless draw with Everton which ultimately handed Man City an advantage that they have not yet yielded.

There is also the small matter of a Champions League semi-final against Barcelona interspersed between those final domestic throes, and perhaps the biggest challenge on Friday will be preventing the players’ focus from drifting to next Wednesday’s first leg at Camp Nou.

Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 13 meetings with Huddersfield across all competitions, winning 10 of those in a run which stretches back 60 years to November 1959.

Indeed, the Terriers have not even scored against the Reds since April 1962 – an eight-game run which includes the 1-0 Liverpool win in October’s reverse fixture, when Salah scored the only goal of the game.

Liverpool’s triumph over Cardiff last weekend means that the top six teams have won all 33 of their Premier League matches versus the current bottom three teams in the table this season – a top-flight record.
