PSG Wrong To Have Signed Ramos -Rothen

Published

on

Former PSG star Jerome Rothen has expressed displeasure over the signing of Sergio Ramos to the Paris club.

Ramos, who joined the team in summer transfer window, is yet to make his debut appearance due to injury.

Rothen pointed out that it was needless for PSG to have signed the former Ream Madrid defender due to his reoccurring injuries.

“Sustaining a calf muscle injury towards the end of your career is really bad news because it’s an injury that you seldom make a full recovery from,” Rothen said.

“Once the player increases his rhythm, whether during a game or in training with PSG, he might not be able to continue.

“And when a player reaches a certain age, he needs to play a number of games to get back into form.

“Will he be able to get back to top level if he has constant pains in his calf? I have serious doubts about that.”

Liverpool Must Do Everything To Keep Salah, Kuyt Insists

Published

on

Former Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt has urged the board to do all they can to secure Mohamed Salah to a new deal.

Salah is yet to pen a contract extension and his current deal expires in 2023.

Kuyt believes the 29-year-agreeing a new contract is important, but the club equally need to keep the team together.

He continued: “If I was Liverpool, I would do everything to keep the team in the shape that it is now because Mo [Salah] is feeling very comfortable with the players he’s playing with.

“So, first of all, I would sign him for as long as possible, but also try to keep the other players on board because it’s an amazing team and together with the coaching staff, it’s looking very, very good.

“Last season, of course they struggled , but I think it had a lot to do with injuries. Now they are so strong, they’ve won lots of games and I’m looking forward to the future. Hopefully a long time with these kind of players.”

Salah feels they’re capable of winning something this season.

Salah is concentrating on ensuring Jurgen Klopp ‘s side keep pace with Chelsea and Manchester City at the top of the table, after an unbeaten start to the season.

Grab Man United Job If Contacted, Domenech Tells Zidane

Published

on

Former France coach Raymond Domenech has urged Zinedine Zidane to accept the chance of managing Manchester United if the opportunity is open.

Domenech made this known in an interview with L’Equipe TV, where he said that the former Real Madrid coach has the capability to turn around the fortune of the Red Devils.

Recall that on Tuesday, Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly approached Manchester United chiefs and recommended the club replace manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with Zinedine Zidane.

Pressure has mounted on Solskjaer following Manchester United’s 4-2 defeat at the hands of Leicester City over the weekend.

Although reports have indicated that Zidane has no interest in a move to the Premier League, Domenech is urging the former Real Madrid to have a rethink.

“What job is he made for when he’s been a multiple Champions League with Real Madrid? What’s left? [Manchester] City, United, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich? There’s five or six clubs. After that, if he takes another club, they’re a step down for him, for someone of his level.

“There comes a point when you can’t let that possibility slip. He’s also got, with [Cristiano] Ronaldo, a direct relay, a translator from Spanish to English.

“He’ll also get away from people who say he only achieved what he did because it was Real Madrid because he knew the players and he’ll prove he’s really a top manager. That’s why I tell him: go for it. Or stay in your comfort, but I don’t think that’s his desire.”

Lampard Set To Take Over As Newcastle Manager

…As Bruce Resigns

Newcastle United are considering appointing Frank Lampard as their new manager, ESPN reports.

This comes after Steve Bruce’s dismissal was confirmed on Wednesday.

Bruce leaves St James’ Park after two seasons, in which he guided the Magpies to 13th and 12th place finishes in the Premier League.

However, with the Saudi-backed consortium taking over Newcastle last week, they have decided to make a change in the managerial seat.

The club is currently stuck in the relegation zone with three points from eight fixtures.

Former Chelsea boss, Lampard, is one of the names on the shortlist, along with Paulo Fonseca. Both men are out of work and ready to take over immediately.

However, this weekend against Crystal Palace, first-team coach Graeme Jones will take charge of the team on an interim basis.

Lucien Favre, the former Borussia Dortmund coach, and ex-Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe are also in the frame, while Rangers boss Steven Gerrard and Belgium coach Roberto Martinez are more ambitious targets.

Meanwhile,Steve Bruce has left his position as Newcastle manager by “mutual consent”, 13 days after a Saudi-led takeover at St James’ Park, the Premier League club announced on Wednesday.

Bruce, whose departure was widely expected, took charge of his 1,000th match as a manager in Sunday’s 3-2 defeat by Tottenham — his only game under the new owners.
