Ronaldo Discusses Rape Allegation, Real Madrid Exit

Ronaldo To Miss Barcelona Clash Following Third Positive Covid-19 Test

Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo has said the rape allegation made against him is “interfering in my life” and revealed it was his relationship with Real Madrid President Florentino Perez that prompted him to leave the club in the summer.

Last month, a police investigation into a rape allegation made against Ronaldo by Kathryn Mayorga in 2009 was reopened. Mayorga has accused Ronaldo of raping her in a Las Vegas hotel room and paying her $375,000 for her silence on the matter, claims he denies.

On the allegations, he said in an interview with France Football (h/t the Guardian’s Dominic Fifield):

“Of course, this story is interfering in my life. I have a partner, four children, an aging mother, sisters, a brother, a family with whom I am very close. Not to mention my reputation, which is that of someone exemplary.

“Imagine what it means when someone accuses you of rape, whether you have all that or not. I know who I am and what I did. Truth will out one day. And the people who criticise me or seek to expose my life today, who make it into a circus, these people will see.”

Ronaldo joined Juventus after nine years with Real, in which he helped the club win La Liga twice and the UEFA Champions League four times.

Discussing his exit from the Santiago Bernabeu, he said:

“I felt it inside the club, especially from the president, that they no longer considered me the same way that they did in the start. In the first four or five years there, I had the feeling of being ‘Cristiano Ronaldo.’ Less afterwards.

“The president looked at me through eyes that didn’t want to say the same thing, as if I was no longer indispensable to them, if you know what I mean.

“That’s what made me think about leaving.”

Don’t Call Me Millionaire Yet, Says Ex-Real Madrid Star

Former Real Madrid youth player Dani Lorenzo has made it clear he is not a millionaire.

The player recently became an internet sensation due to a viral video capturing his interaction with a fan.

It happened after Malaga CF beat Atletico Madrid B 1-0 on Sunday.

Lorenzo found himself in the spotlight for an exchange that showcased both the passion of football fans and the humility of players.

One supporter seized the opportunity to ask Lorenzo for his coveted match-worn shirt.

However, Dani Lorenzo politely explained that he was unable to give his away due to the club’s policies regarding the distribution of shirts.

Despite the initial refusal, the dedicated fan persisted and offered a meaningful gift that surprised everyone.

Pulling out a 50-euro note from his pocket, the fan offered to buy Lorenzo’s shirt.

Taken aback but moved by the fan’s genuineness, Lorenzo took the money and finished the trade.

The moment was captured by television cameras and subsequently shared on the popular sports program El Chiringuito.

Lorenzo took a moment to reflect on the incident after the game.

“It happened so fast. Just so people understand, we’re in Primera RFEF, I’m not a millionaire, I wish I were,” he told Tribuna.

“We’re given a limited number of shirts to give away, and I had already distributed mine.

“After that, the club charges us for additional shirts.

“Now, upon reflection, I realize I shouldn’t have taken it, I did it with all the good faith in the world, and I hope people understand.”

Premier League To Be Denied Five Spots As Arsenal, Man City Crash Out

The English Premier League is losing the race for one extra Champions League place to the German Bundesliga.

This follows the elimination of Arsenal and Manchester City on Wednesday night.

In the reformatted edition of the Champions League from next season, the two countries with the highest co-efficient will be given an extra group-stage place.

Each win is worth two coefficient points, a draw gets one, and zero for a defeat.

There are also bonus points for getting to certain stages.

Heading into this week’s matches, English clubs were ahead of their German counterparts, but only on countback with the two countries locked on the same coefficient points.

But Bayern Munich beat Arsenal and Real Madrid knocked out City. Borussia Dortmund also eliminated Atletico Madrid on Tuesday, meaning Germany have moved ahead of England on points.

England will now be praying for a miracle from West Ham and Liverpool on Thursday night, who have to turn around their ties against Bayer Leverkusen and Atalanta, to have any hope of catching Germany.
