Senate Passes Bill Declaring June 12 Democracy Day

Senate Passes Bill Declaring June 12 Democracy Day

The Senate on Thursday passed the Public Holiday Act Amendment Bill which will acknowledge June 12 as the new Democracy Day.

The bill which is coming almost a year after President Muhammadu Buhari announced the new date as democracy day, will serve as a replacement for May 29.

The bill which is a concurrence to the version passed by the House of Representatives will be forwarded to the President for assent before it becomes a law.
