Sheik Gumi Is Worst Than Shekau, Omokri, Fani-Kayode Warn

Published

Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has described the controversial Islamic cleric, Sheik Ahmad Gumi as a dangerous snake, saying he is worst than the former Boko Haram leader, Abubakr Shekau.

The former minister made the accusation in a post on his verified Facebook page on Wednesday while reacting to Gumi’s stance on calls for the Federal Government to declare bandits terrorists.

Recall that stakeholders across the country had recently asked President Muhammadu Buhari to declare the armed bandits who are wreaking havoc in most parts of the North as terrorists to enable the Nigerian Army tackle them properly.

But Gumi in his recent comment, had kicked against the call, insisting that such move would lead to the break down of the corporate existence of the country.

Reacting to Gumi’s claim, FFK alleged that the cleric’s father had once declared that Christians should not be allowed to rule the country.

Fani-Kayode who believes that Gumi is currently following the steps of his father, described him as “venomous snake and a wolf in sheep’s clothing”.

The Facebook post reads, “Sheik Ahmad Gumi, the Rasputin of Arewa, whose father once said a Christian must not rule Nigeria and who himself said the FG must not declare the killer bandits as terrorists is worse than Abubakar Shekau & Al Barnawi. He is a venomous snake and a wolf in sheep’s clothing”.

In the same vein, Omokri has accused Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi of indulging in Public Relations for bandits.

Omokri made the remark while stressing that Gumi was an inspiration to terrorists.

In a tweet, the former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan wondered why the Federal Government was prosecuting secessionists like Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho while Gumi is a free man.

“Sheikh Gumi never speaks for the victims. But when terrorist bandits are affected, he speaks.

“How long shall a government that is after Igboho and Kanu continue tolerating the PR work Gumi is doing for terrorists bandits?

“Gumi is an inspiration to these terrorists,” Omokri tweeted.

This is coming after Gumi had warned that it would be dangerous to declare bandits as terrorists.

The Kaduna-based Islamic scholar had said making such declaration would come with a price.

Gumi said foreign terrorists would radicalize the bandits if proscribed by the Federal Government.

Israel Adesanya Beats Jared Cannonier To Retain UFC Middleweight Title

on

Israel Adesanya defeated Jarred Cannonier via unanimous decision (49-46, 49-46, 50-45) to retain the UFC middleweight championship.

Adesanya fought against middleweight contender Jared Cannonier at UFC 276 at the T-mobile Arena, Las Vegas Sunday morning.

Since making his debut in 2018, ‘The Last Stylebender’ has looked better each time he’s stepped into the Octagon and is still undefeated in the middleweight. He first captured the interim title in the Fight of The Year winner against Kelvin Gastelum in 2019.

‘Izzy’ then defeated Robert Whittaker and unified the titles that same year.

He has successfully defended his title four times since then. On an otherwise perfect record for Adesanya (22-1), his only loss was during his unsuccessful step up to light heavyweight, losing to then-champion Jan Blachowicz.

On Sunday, the Nigerian-born New Zealander successfully defended his middleweight title for the fifth time.

While Adesanya defeated Robert Whittaker in February for the second time to retain his middleweight strap, Cannonier knocked out Derek Brunson in the second round in February to become the weight’s No.1contender.

INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, made the call during a meeting with members of the Inter-Agency Committee on Election Security in Abuja.

He said he was satisfied with the conduct of security agencies during the election, and that the speedy prosecution of culprits of vote-buying will serve as a deterrent for others.

“Vote busying remains a major area of concern. We appreciate the role played by anti-corruption and security agencies,” he said.

“We are working with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to ensure the prosecution of persons arrested in the Ekiti governorship election.”

The INEC Chairman also highlighted the commission’s activities lined up for the forthcoming Osun State scheduled for July 16.

According to him, INEC is committed to the conduct of pre-election activities to perfect the Osun polls.

“The Commission is deploying a readiness assessment team to Osun State next week to assess our preparations. We will visit some of our local government offices in the state, hold meetings with our staff, we will also observe the mock accreditation of voters in some polling units across the three senatorial districts in the state,” the INEC Chairman added.
