‘There Will Be No Issues Managing Ronaldo’ -Solskjaer

Published

on

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said that the “mutual respect” that exists between himself and Cristiano Ronaldo means that there will be no issues when it comes to managing the Portuguese.

Ronaldo will make his second debut for the 20-time English champions in Saturday’s Premier League clash with Newcastle United at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer has insisted that he will have no issues managing the 36-year-old to ensure that he gets the best out of him, and the Norwegian has tipped his former teammate to play until he is 40.

“We’ve got mutual respect for each other… he knows I’ve got to make the decisions when to play, when not to play, it’s my job to manage him and we get the best out of him, I want to see the best out of Cristiano and that comes from communication,” Solskjaer told reporters.

“We spent a few years together at the club, we know each other, he doesn’t need me to tell him what to do, he’s already had determination and desire to be the best and he’s the one I’ve seen that’s prepared and taken steps he needed to. Ryan Giggs played until 40 and I’m not gonna be surprised if Cristiano ends up with the same age as Ryan.”

Solskjaer has not yet revealed whether Ronaldo will be in the starting XI against Newcastle, but he will be involved during some stage of the clash with Steve Bruce’s side.

I’ll Retire From Football When My Legs Are Tired, Ronaldo Declares

Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo has ruled out international retirement.

The Portugal captain, 36, became the all-time top scorer in international football last month.

Ronaldo – who lifted the Euro trophy in 2016 – is hungry for more ahead of the 2022 World Cup held in Qatar in December next year.

Quizzed by Sky Sports on international retirement, he said: “But why? I think it’s not my time yet. It’s not what people want, it’s what I want.

“It’s when I feel that I’m not capable to run, to dribble, to shoot, if the power is gone… but I still have that stuff so I want to continue because I’m still motivated.

“It’s the main word – [motivated] to do my stuff, to make people happy and my family happy and the fans and myself. I want to put the level even higher.

“You speak about Portugal but in the Champions League I have the most goals, the most wins, assists… everything.

“But I want to carry on. I like to play football. I feel good to make people happy.”

I’m Ready For Sunday’s El Clasico Against Barca, Says Courtois

Published

on

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is excited ahead of the El Clasico against Barcelona.

Real Madrid go to Barca on Sunday for the first El Clasico of the season.

Courtois said: “The Clasicos are one of the most watched games in the world. You feel when you go to play it, even before you are here. They are games that all the players watch.

“And we are happy that the fans are back in the stands. That gives a plus to a Clásico. It’s going to be a very intense game, with rivalry, clashes on the field …

“In the end it is going there to the death, to defend yours. Sometimes when heat arises in the game, there may be a clash, but always with the utmost respect, because we are professionals. But that is cool in these games, let there be a little fire.”

Asked if he’s happy Lionel Messi is no longer with Barca, Courtois added: “No, because we like to face him. It’s always cool when you can face the best. I remember a game the first year I arrived that he didn’t play and we lost 5-1. I don’t want to remember that, but that’s the way it is.

“Barça have quality, new young stars: Ansu Fati, Pedri … It’s going to be a great game because they have a lot of quality.”

Senator Afikuyomi Greets Mustapha On Turbaning As Turaki Of Ilorin

Published

The Royal Turbaning of Alhaji Saliu Mustapha as the Turaki of Ilorin by His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, is a worthy recognition of Alhaji Mustapha’s contribution to nation-building, according to Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi, a long-term associate of the new Turaki.

Afikuyomi stressed in a statement that Alhaji Saliu Mustapha has been conscientious in politics, and painstaking in humanitarian services, not just around the people of Ilorin Emirate alone, but in the entire Kwara State and in Nigeria as a whole.

According to the Senator, who once represented both, Lagos Central Senatorial District, and Lagos West Senatorial District. Mustapha’s decent politics, maturity and candor have combined to portray him as a rare breed amongst the pack, which is why he is often welcomed in any circle he has pitched tent with.

“He has a great sense of fairness, comportment and is also result oriented. A loyal friend, with a god-fearing disposition, he passes as one of the most respectable public figures from Kwara State,” Afikuyomi added.

The senator summed that with his turbaning as the Turaki of Ilorin, he was confident that he will impact on the people of the peace-loving emirate, in line with the vision of His Royal Highness, and the expectations of citizens.

“May God almighty give him the wisdom, good health and longevity to deliver the much-needed goods for his people, his fans and for humanity at large. Congratulations to a good friend,” the Senator concluded.
