Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte has urged Ferran Torres to keep pushing himself.

Torres lined up for City in their Champions League game in Marseille, and responded to that vote of confidence with a well-taken goal on 17 minutes, converting Kevin De Bruyne’s pass after a defensive mistake.

After the win, Laporte said: “He is a young guy. He has to improve many things.

“What he has done is very great, I think he deserves it because he works really hard every day to score many goals. I hope he can help us more on the pitch.”

Laporte also confirmed he is fully recovered from his injury issues, and hopes to establish his place in the side in the coming weeks.

“It was a very hard game and we are very happy with the win,” said Laporte. “I’m very happy to be back and I hope it’s for a long time and I can play the next games, but we will see how things go.”
