INEC Assures Free, Fair And Credible Election In Kogi

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, on Thursday said after the experience of 2019 polls that the commission was now more determined than never before to improve election quality in Nigeria.

Yakubu stated this during the opening ceremony of the 2019 Post Election Review Meeting of the commission, in Ikeja Lagos.

“After the 2019 general election, we are more determined than ever to improve on the quality of elections in Nigeria.

“We have learnt a lot from the conduct of the last general elections. Vital lessons have been learnt from our interactions with stakeholders on how we can improve on our efforts.

“In all facets of our duties as Electoral umpires, we are determined to improve on electoral processes in the country, using the lessons we have learnt from the last general election.

“After each election, plans for the next election should promptly commence. That is what we are doing now as we pursue our determination to improve the electoral processes in future,” he said.

Opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had accused INEC chairman of declaring President Muhammadu Buhari winner of the 2019 general elections with fake results and currently challenging the outcome of the poll before the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.

The allegation that INEC jettisoned the original result in its server and the commission’s denial that it has no server and that the Presidential election was never transmitted through server has continued to dominate political discussion in Nigeria.
