Another Nigerian Killed In South Africa

The Government of South Africa has reacted to the reports of the killing of two Nigerians in the country.

Confirming the reports  in Johannesburg was the Assistant Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Union in South Africa, NUSA, Odefa Ikele.

Ikele had told the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, that, ”The Nigerian community lost two citizens to gruesome murders over the weekend.

”Mr Bonny Iwuoha, 48, from Ihitte/Uboma in Imo state, was stabbed to death at about 11:45 p.m. on April 6, 2019 in Johannesburg South.

”We gathered that his assailants followed him from 152 Hay Street Turffontein, and thereafter, stabbed and killed him in front of his gate at Turf Road, Turffontein.

”The killing was witnessed by Mr Izochukwu Nwokocha, also known as, Nwa Father.”

However, in a statement on Thursday by Ms Phumla Williams, the Acting Director General and the South Africa’s Cabinet Spokesperson, the country explained the circumstances that led to the death of the Nigerians.

Williams said, “Your newspaper reported recently two incidents of the killing of two Nigerians in South Africa. Such incidences should never define our relationships with our fellow Africans. We remain steadfast in that our country continues to welcome our fellow brothers and sisters who, contribute to growing our economy and the economy of their respective countries.

“The preliminary facts from our law enforcement agencies informs us that one Nigerian was killed in Johannesburg and circumstances of his death is linked to pure robbery and the other incident that happened in Cape Town is believed to be a drug related fight that unfortunately resulted in death.

“We can, however, assure the Nigerian citizens residing in South Africa and in your country, that both these cases are acts of criminality that must be fully investigated. A case docket has been opened on both incidences and investigation are underway to arrest the perpetrators of these crimes.

“As government, we have zero tolerance for crime and those who are guilty will face the full might of the law. We also remain steadfast in our commitment to serve and protect all within our borders, South Africans and foreign nationals alike.

“Our government remains committed in the belief enshrined in our constitution, that South Africa belongs to all who live in it. The Constitution provides protection to all within our borders, and South Africa is a multicultural society that promotes interaction among people of different backgrounds.

“Our nation is a cultural melting pot which encompasses citizens of many nations. Our acclaimed Constitution protects the rights of all people living in the country, South Africans and foreigners alike.

“At the same time our criminal justice system is geared to be responsive to the safety and security needs of all who live in South Africa. Incidents of crime or criminality are treated with urgency; they are investigated and those who are found guilty by a court of law are appropriately punished.

“There are of course times when individual incidents of crime could impact foreign nationals living in South Africa. These incidents like all others are fully investigated, and alleged perpetrators are arrested and face the full might of the law.

“Our criminal justice system is integrated. The South African Police Service is responsible for investigating reported criminal offences. In the process of investigating a crime the police will speak to witnesses and interrogate any available evidence. However, it must be noted that fighting crime is a shared responsibility between the police and the community. We rely on the cooperation of the community to prosecute criminals.

“Once the police have investigated the matter is handed over to the National Prosecuting Authority who ensures that perpetrators of crime are charged and held responsible for their criminal actions.

“Since 1994 all visitors to our shores have been welcomed with open arms, and as an integral part of the African continent, we continue to advocate for a peaceful, vibrant and sustainable Africa. As Africans we all have a shared commitment to foster peace and greater continental unity. Our mantra has always been that we can build a better South Africa and Africa by working together.

“We are also ever mindful of the role fellow African nations played in ensuring our liberation and freedom. During apartheid African nations welcomed our people with open arms and provided support and refuge to our freedom fighters.

“We have steadfastly built on these relations since 1994, and most recently South Africa assisted our neighbours in Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe following the devastation caused by Cyclone Idai.

“As a nation we will never allow the actions of criminals to undo our work in building a cohesive nation. Therefore we will continue to work with communities, business, labour, faith-based and civil society organisations to ensure that all who live in our country are safe.

“Building a better tomorrow however, requires the help and assistance of all who live within our borders. Our democracy provides space for all who reside in South Africa to make a difference in our communities. The Constitution and Bill of Rights guarantees our humanity, and affirms the democratic values of dignity, equality and freedom.

“Our government will continue to build the many ties that bind us as Africans. In the year that we celebrate 25 years of freedom and democracy we will do more to build a truly united and cohesive nation.”

Breaking: EFCC Declares Ex-Kogi Gov Yahaya Bello Wanted

Published

……Says It’s Criminal Obstructing Their Operations

Yahaya Bello, the former Governor of Kogi State has been declared wanted on Thursday.

He was declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for offences relating to economic and financial crimes.

This was contained in a notice posted on the commission’s official Facebook page on Thursday.

“Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, is wanted by the EFCC for offences relating to economic and financial crimes to the tune of N80.2 bn.

“Anybody with information as to his whereabout should report immediately to the commission or the nearest police station,” the notice read.

Meanwhile, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has warned Nigerians against obstructing its operatives during the course of their duties.

The warning came after security aides attached to embattled former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello on Wednesday, obstructed operatives from arresting him at his Abuja home.

In a Wednesday statement signed by the spokesperson for the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, the commission said, “The EFCC wishes to warn members of the public that it is a criminal offence to obstruct officers of the commission from carrying out their lawful duties,”

While quoting the provisions of the law, Oyewale noted that culprits are liable to a jail term of not less than five years.

He added that on several occasions, operatives of the EFCC have had to exercise restraint in the face of such provocation to avoid a breakdown of law and order.

He further noted that, regrettably, such disposition is being construed as a sign of weakness.

Oyewale noted, “Section 38(2)(a(b) of the EFCC Establishment Act makes it an offence to prevent officers of the commission from carrying out their lawful duties. Culprits risk a jail term of not less than five years.

“This warning becomes necessary against the background of the increasing tendency by persons and groups under investigation by the commission to take the laws into their hands by recruiting thugs to obstruct lawful operations of the EFCC.

“On several occasions, operatives of the commission have had to exercise utmost restraint in the face of such provocation to avoid a breakdown of law and order.

“Regrettably, such disposition is being construed as a sign of weakness.

“The commission, therefore, warns that it will henceforth not tolerate any attempt by any person or organisation to obstruct its operation as such will be met with appropriate punitive actions.”

I’m The Man In Charge, Ganduje Brags As Court Stops Suspension

Published

on

Former governor of Kano State, Senator Abdullahi Ganduje said he is still in charge as the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), following the reversal of his purported suspension by his ward executives.

The party politics within the Kano APC took a new twist as Justice A. M Liman of the Federal High Court in Kano stopped Ganduje’s suspension.

The Court also restrained all the respondents, their agents from implementing the decisions reached at the executive meeting of the APC held at the Ganduje Ward of Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area on April 15 2024, pending the determination and hearing of his substantive application for the enforcement of his fundamental rights.

The Judge also asked the parties to maintain the status quo before the purported emergency meeting of the alleged executive members of the APC ward.

Justice Liman gave the order while ruling on a motion exparte filed by Ganduje for the enforcement of his fundamental right to fair hearing.

The case has been fixed for April 30 for hearing.

Ganduje was suspended by his ward executive.

But the APC said the masterminds are members of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and filed a petition to the National Judicial Council (NJC), alleging that the judge who gave the order has been compromised.

On Wednesday, the Kano State High Court granted an ex parte order restraining Ganduje from parading himself as a member of the party, thereby affirming his suspension.

But the APC National Working Committee (NWC) described the order as fraudulent and unlawful.

The APC National Legal Adviser, Prof. Abdulkarim Kana stated this while briefing journalists shortly after the APC Ward Executives from Ganduje Ward in Dawakin-Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State visited the party’s National Chairman in his office in Abuja.

Kana also said the Ganduje Ward Executives had proceeded to the National Judicial Council (NJC) to submit a petition for Kano High Court Judge, Justice Usman Na’abba to be called to order.

Reacting to the development, Ganduje appreciated the party executive members and ward officials from Ganduje Ward for distancing themselves from the purported plot to remove him from the party’s leadership and membership.

He attributed the development to the plan of Governor Abba Yusuf of the NNPP to weaken APC in the state ahead of the 2027 general election and other electoral contests.

The APC chairman said, “In fact, what is happening is that it is an incursion into our political party by the NNPP government of Kano in order to destroy our party.

“They are so concerned that in their first year in office, they have seen their failures right from the destruction of the economy of Kano state to increased political violence in and also destruction of political morality in Kano state.

“We are battle ready to take over their government. They are concerned that Kano produces the highest votes. They are so concerned that we will repeat the same feat for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu again. We will ensure that in 2027, there is no vacancy for any presidential candidate fram Kano and from Nigeria.

“They are out to create confusion in our party so that we will not have the courage to take over our government in Kano state. They want to ensure Tinubu does not have the intimidating votes he used to have from Kano state. We will tell them their intentions will fail, that it is impossible, that it is a falsehood.

“I am assuring the President that our party in Kano is solid, it is battle ready in order to keep the votes for president very high, even the highest in Nigeria.

“We have written to the IGP, the DG DSS who are handling the case because we have their pictures, names, and we know their political leanings. Some of them were captured even wearing kwankwasjyya cap. They were so daft and insensitive that they couldn’t camouflage properly.”

APC Writes IGP, Demands Arrest, Investigation Of Those Behind Ganduje’s Suspension

Published

on

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has asked the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun to investigate and apprehend eight persons for impersonation and false statements.

The demand was contained in a two-page letter written by the party’s national legal adviser, Prof. Abdulkarim Kana, dated April 18, 2024, and titled “Petition for investigation and apprehension of Auwalu Galadima Jemomi and 8 others for impersonation and false statement”.

Others are Muhde Weti, Danmala Gale, Samaila Haladu, Laminu Sani Barguma, Musa Lado Lado Maishayi, Amadu Maishayi and Umar Amarwa

In the letter, the national legal adviser alleged that the persons falsely claimed to be party executives of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of Ganduje Ward in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano state.

The letter reads: “Specifically, on April 15, 2024, Auwalu Galadima Jemomi and his accomplices, claiming to be Party Executives of the APC from Ganduje Ward in Dawakin Tofa Local Government, Kano State, falsely issued a press statement suspending our National Chairman, Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, from the Party. This unauthorized and misleading statement has created significant confusion and unrest among our members and the public at large.

“Such impersonation and dissemination of false information are not only illegal but also have the potential to disrupt public peace and order.

“Therefore, I request the Nigerian Police Force to promptly investigate this matter and apprehend Auwalu Galadima Jemomi and his accomplices involved in this fraudulent act.

“Additionally, I request the police to identify and investigate any sponsors or conspirators associated with this incident beyond those explicitly named in this petition. I trust in the Nigerian Police Force’s commitment to upholding justice and ensuring that incidents of impersonation and false claims are decisively addressed to prevent future occurrences.”
